Rodney Southern, DMD, MS
Meet Dr. Southern
Dr. Rodney G. Southern was born in Greenville, SC and raised in Belton, SC. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the College of Charleston and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Dental Medicine in 2000.
While in College and Dental School, Dr. Southern served for eight years in the United States Army Reserve in the 7224th Medical Support Unit and the 350th Medical Detachment in Charleston, SC.
After dental school, Dr. Southern entered the United States Air Force Dental Corps and completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at Sheppard Air Force Hospital in Wichita Falls, TX.
Dr. Southern served three more years as a General Dentist and Officer in the United States Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC.
Upon completion of his military service, Dr. Southern was accepted into an Advanced Endodontic Residency at West Virginia University, School of Dentistry in Morgantown, WV where he received a Master of Science degree and Certificate as a Specialist in Endodontics in 2006.
Dr. Southern has been practicing the specialty of endodontics for over ten years, mastering his skills and keeping current with the latest technologies and techniques by constantly pursuing continuing education. Dr. Southern is a specialty member of the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, and Southern Endodontic Study Club.
Dr. Southern also has had the privilege to serve as the President of the Anderson County Dental Society since 2012.
Dr. Southern enjoys living in Anderson with his beautiful wife, Tara, and son, Ben. They are members of New Spring Church in Anderson, SC. In his spare time, Dr. Southern enjoys hunting, fishing, and golf.
